Maria Esther Bueno enjoys the Wilson Experience

MEB Wilson H&SThe Wilson Experience happened in São Paulo last Wednesday, 2 December, and Maria Esther Bueno was invited to make an appearance at the Wilson Concept Store Brasil alongside Fernando Meligeni and Mauro Menezes, amongst many others.

It was an unprecedented event presented by Wilson Sporting Goods, the top tennis brand in Brazil, at which there were several new product launches announcing their respective technologies ahead of their retail launch next year.

“It was a very successful event and I was very pleased to be a part of it,” Maria Esther told her website.

“Pitt [Von Oertzen] made all the arrangements and it was a really good event.

“I showed off the racket I got at the US Open and played with the gizmo that tracks everything you do!

“I’m not sure what to make of the information it recorded though – I think probably it’s best for me not to know!!”

Maria Esther Bueno has played with Wilson rackets since 1952 and has been faithful to the brand  throughout her illustrious career.

She made her appearance on the court showing off the latest Ultra XP 100LS racket as she hit some balls with Mauro Menezes, the Head Coach of the Sociade Harmonia de Tenis club in São Paulo, and Marco Luque, the actor, comedian and Brazilian television presenter.

“We hardly missed a ball, Mauro and me,” Maria Esther continued.

“We play a lot at the club together and have a lot of control so we get to hit a lot of balls.”

Maria Esther’s new racket included Sony Smart Sensor technology, which gave data on her play session like she has never before experienced.

The Sony Sensor easily connects to the butt cap of the racket sending real-time data through an App that is compatible with smartphones and/or tablets.

The data, which is automatically stored as younplay, gives access to ball impact spot, ball spin, ball speed, and swing speed, and can be played back via video recorded during play and simultaneously viewed for swing and shot analysis data.

Eddie Wetzel, Wilson’s Vice President for Latin America, thanked everyone who attended and announced the latest milestone in the history of Wilson Brasil, which is the promotion of new brand awareness through social networking, and a greater relationship with the end consumer and sponsored athletes and events.

Wilson can now be found on Facebook: facebook.com.br/wilsontennisbrazil; Instagram: wilsontennis_br; Snapchat: wilsontennis_br; and Twitter: @wilsontennis_br; as well as at www.wilson.com

“It was nice to be recognised by the big boss of Wilson for South America as I have been loyal to the company my entire career and continue to use their rackets.

“My first racket was a hand-me-down from my brother, Pedro, and it was a heavy wooden Jack Kramer model. I remember it so well.

“In those days we had to keep the racket in a special press to stop it warping and we travelled with them like that.

“When I started out playing tournaments I had just two rackets.

“Nowadays the players seem have so many, they change them before every change of balls in a match. We were lucky to get a re-string now and then!

“Modern technology has added so much power with much lighter frames made from synthetic materials that has really changed how the game is played. Wilson has been at the forefront of all of that.”
